For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) is a non-profit public charity corporation, that holds and organize FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition). FRC is an international high school robotics competition that stretches over a six-weeks period. The goal is to construct a robot that can complete a vast variation of different tasks, such as:
The tasks changes annually. Each team receives a standard set of parts and a set budget, this is to encourage customization and construction of specialized parts. FRC is one of four different competitions, the other ones is FIRST Lego League Jr., FIRST Lego League, and the FIRST Tech Challenge. FIRST was founded by inventor Dean Kamne in 1989. The reason behind the creation of FIRST was to inspire more women and minorities to choose a career in science and technology. Combining the excitement of sports competition with science and technology, was his way to make this happened.
